The Fort Langley Canoe Club (FLCC) held our annual Cranberry Voyageur races, in conjunction with the Fort Langley Cranberry Festival, on October 6, 2007. We had a total of 20 teams enter this year from throughout the Fraser Valley.
Teams - FLCC Paddle Pushers, FLCC Dragon Queens, FLCC Bedford Beavers, FLCC Cranberry Tarts, FLCC Fort Fusion, Gung Haggis Fun Choy, Gung Haggis $ Friends, Saints Preserve Us, Ready Jets Go Smashing Pumpkins and On the Rocks, FLCC Voyageur Virgins, Mana Wahine, Myriad Mavericks, Sudden Impact, Pirate Water Warriors, McLellan Family, FLCC Sprint, Rawstron family, Goons United, FLCC SOAR.
Once the fog cleared at about 10am the races began. The morning heats were around a circular course of about 1000 meters. There were four or five voyageur boats in each heat and all teams got two races around the circular course, giving the spectators and paddlers some excitement as the several boats struggle to round the marks ahead of each other. The times from the morning races placed the teams into the final two races to be sure to provide some exciting, close races. The final races include several fun events such as picking pumpkins out of the river and running along the beach with a wine glass of cranberry juice on your paddle, as well as rounding the marks with many other boats on the same course. There are two final races each with ten voyageur canoes. It's an exciting time for spectators and participants.
